First up: I can't say i've ever seen any TF2 art quite like this. I say this both in respect to the postures involved, and in respect to the content (demoman pimp slapping pyro). Also, you managed to capture the hand-painted 'cartoon' textures of team fortress, while adding your own mark to it as well. Thus, despite the characters not be 'original', i definitely award the picture a full compliment of 5/5.
Technique is interesting: You went for a larger brush in many areas, but used them very effectively. A good example would be the demoman's arm, where you used what appears to be only 3 colors but gave the appearance of a full shade. This is probably what gives the work the 'team fortress 2' look, and really says volumes about your skill with implying shading to the onlooker. The only thing keeping this from a 5/5 here is the Pyro's posture, and the demoman's face. In the case of the demoman, i believe that the chin may jut too far forward, though that may be a stylistic choice Regarding the pyro, his head is angled far too high up. Remember that the mask faces downward slightly. So to have him show both the top of his head and the mask front at once would involve his neck coming in through his mouth.
I liked this work, it was funny, original, and believable. ESPECIALLY if the demoman just drank from his bottle o' scrumpy.
Wouldn't it be ironic if the Pyro DID end up being a girl? Eh, I think the Demo woulda slapped her anyway.
Everything about this is awesome, especially all the movement. At first I thought it was a little odd that the Demo wasn't leaning a bit more into the slap, then I realized it made it a bit more comedic, like the Pyro came in charging and the Demo was barely fazed by it. He just stood there and POW! Amazing how slight body positioning like that can tell so much of a story. The accuracy of the weapons is great too, and is especially hard to capture in the odd positions you have them in. The only slight thing I can think to critique is the shading on the Pyro's suit. I'm not sure if you were going for a scorched look, but it's hard to tell if the shaded parts are supposed to be soot or shading. Perhaps shade with a darker shade of blue rather than black if that's what you were going for? Or if you were trying to make the suit look burnt, make the black a bit darker and patchier. Besides that, everything in this piece is awesome.
PS: I'd give this an official critique, but alas. I'm too broke for a premium subscription.
Thankyou for taking the time to critique, official or not it don't matter to me. Yeah - I was going for a really one-sided bitch slap situation - like demo's on a real tear and he's just swatting enemies away like flies. In a lot of the reference material I used,[link] Pyro has black sooty build up on his extremities, and that's what I was trying to portray. Obviously the differentiation between underlying color and stain is something I need to work on. Thanks again!
It requires a long charge and a really complicated sequence of buttons you have to push and you can only do it when the dumb fucker is running right at you even though he doesn't have a melee weapon out - but it is an instant kill because it causes all the vertabrae in the neck to twist out of place and it shatters most of the bones in the face. If you fuck it up it only causes temporary blindness or deafness.
